PostSecret

A year or so back I came across a website called "PostSecret." Turns out PostSecret is more than just a website, it is an anonymous way for people all around the world to tell someone a secret they have. Frank Warren began PostSecret as a community art project where he handed out 3,000 self-addressed postcards to strangers and asked them to put a secret on it and mail it to him. He had two requirements, that the secret be true, and had never been revealed to anyone else before. Those initial postcards were displayed in Washington DC later that year. Soon after that exhibition, Frank began receiving anonymous postcards from around the world, he now receives over a thousand secrets a week. He travels all across the Country speaking at different colleges and Universities, sharing these secrets with anyone who will listen. He has also published four books containing secrets, with a fifth book on the way. Some of the secrets are funny, some are deep and dark, and some even end up being a secret you share. I check the website religiously every Sunday (www.postsecret.com) when new secrets are posted and I own all the books. While I would love to see Frank speak I have not yet lived close enough to any of the schools that he has been to so far. This summer there was a PostSecret exhibit being displayed at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse so I couldn't wait to go. I rounded up some cousins, who then rounded up some friends, and we made it a fun-filled weekend. The exhibit did not disappoint and only made me even more excited for this Sunday's secrets. Perhaps I was even inspired to send in one of my own, but of course I can't tell you that- it has to be a secret.

We all met at the Museum on Saturday afternoon, did a little shopping and caught up over dinner, then hit the town for drinks that night. As we headed downtown, we realized that in the group of six we were going out with, every one's name began with the letter "M." So at first the night started out with us saying that you couldn't hang out with us that night unless your name also began with an "M," and I have to say that Mike's friend Ed was such a good sport about it. He let us call him "Med" all night, ha ha. Then my cousins and I thought it would be fun to pose as quadruplets for the night and see if we could fool anyone. We said our night would be complete if we could convince even one person... and of course we did!

The poor guy bought it hook line and sinker. But we played it up well, we had birth order, how we all went to different colleges so we could have our own identities, and were even finishing each other's sentences. I think we kept it up for a good hour or so, but I let Maureen and MaryKate do most of the talking because I was afraid I would start laughing and blow our cover. We had lots of fun and special thanks to Megan and Mike for letting us crash at their house that night and for hosting the after-hours dance party!
