Who Does That?

So I write this blog from the warmth and comfort of my Aunt and Uncle's home in Syracuse, NY... telling the story of my trip home- and trust me, I could not have made this up even if I had tried.

So here is what was supposed to have happened: I leave NC at 7 am, arrive in Philadelphia about 9 am, then arrive in Syracuse at 11 am. End of story. My brother TJ was in Syracuse awaiting my arrival, we were going to go to the mall, then were to proceed home. Brent is going to leave Saturday night and drive up with the dogs, then I will ride back home with him before New Year's. NBD... yeah right. So here is what actually happened...

Who Does That #1: I am in the Wilmington airport this morning at about 6 am, waiting to fly out for the day... I look over and I notice this girl and her boyfriend (maybe husband, who knows). She was plucking his eyebrows. Tweezers and all. In the airport terminal. What? I don't think Brent would let me do that in the privacy of our own home much less in a public place like an airport! No one should be plucking their eyebrows in an airport terminal- their own or someone else's. Seriously, who does that?

Who Does That #2: Sitting in Philadelphia, waiting to board my plane to NY and here comes this girl strutting across the lobby- all white skin-tight sweat suit tucked into Uggs, and wearing a bridal veil. Like a veil your bridesmaids would make you wear to the bar at your bachelorette party... in an airport at 8 am though? Really? Do you need that much attention? Seriously, who does that?

Who Does That #3: So we board the plane in Philly, sit on the runway for an hour, then fly to Syracuse. So far so good. Then the pilot comes over the loudspeaker, "Well folks, hate to be the bearer of bad news...but it seems the weather has deteriorated significantly." Yeah we flew all the way to Syracuse, circled the airport a few times, then the pilot decided he could not land the plane and flew us all the way back to Philadelphia. Again, who does that?

Who Does That #4: So two hours after we land back in Philadelphia, waiting for our carry-on luggage (yes our carry-ons, don't ask) at baggage claim I am sharing my frustrations with a few other passengers. So a woman with her baby says she got a rental car and is offering a ride to whoever would like one- she wouldn't mind having some company for the drive. So here I go- me and Anne Marie, the opera singer and her 4-month-old daughter Clara, and Randy, the night club manager from Miami (not much older than me and kind of cute) hopping into a mini van and trekking up through the storm to Syracuse. 7 hours in a car with two complete strangers- who does that?

Seriously though, I could not have met up with nicer people (the Debster was worried), and like I said- I could not even make this up. An opera singer, an infant, and a night club manager trying to get to his grandfather's funeral. Instead of arriving in Syracuse at 11 am, I arrived at 10 pm- but it beat being stuck at the Philadelphia airport overnight.

So I have made it safe and sound to Syracuse, but if I never experience a day of travel again like I did today, I will be just fine. Happy Holidays, and I hope everyone else's travels are much less eventful than mine.

HASN'T YOUR MOTHER EVER TOLD YOU DON'T TAKE RIDES FROM STRANGERS!!! Shame on your Marge ellen... shame on you. You're lucky the opera singer didn't strangle you and steal your beautiful vocal cords for herself...
