Yes to Myrtle, No to the Beach

While Brent was in Iraq, he and I talked a lot about what he wanted to do, and where we wanted to go when he got home. So we had a few ideas- go up home, Vegas, do nothing... then pretty much settled on the idea that we did not really want to do much of anything. As much as we love to go home and see our friends and family, the whole packing, loading the dogs, driving 14 plus hours each way did not exactly scream "vacation." So Brent and I decided that we were going to stay put and if anyone wanted so see Brent when he got back- they could come to us.

So Brent's parents accepted that challenge, and made the trip down Brent's second weekend home. We took them to our favorite sports bars slash restaurant slash kind of the only decent place in Sneads Ferry to go out to dinner. The rest of the weekend we spent relaxing, showing them the area and giving them a tour of Base. It was great to see them and we are both grateful they made the long drive.

The following weekend Brent and I each took a couple days off and went down to Myrtle Beach- just the two of us. We realize that most people go to Myrtle for the beach, but since we can go to the beach anytime, we went for everything else- eating... drinking...shopping. And of course when I say shopping I am grinning from ear to ear as we all know that is one of my favorite past times.

Brent and I rocked out at the piano bar, where Brent was pleasantly surprised they played the Philadelphia Eagles' fight song, dominated Broadway at the Beach and the Ripley's aquarium, and now might as well own stock in the Tanger Outlet Malls. It is so great to have Brent home and I am grateful every day that he is home safe and unharmed. Now we keep our fingers crossed that he does not have to deploy again anytime soon!
