Moe's Left-Handed Salute

My cousin Maureen flew down from New York to spend a long weekend with me before Brent gets back and let's just say her trip got off to a rough start. Moe flew in on a Thursday night, but I had to work the next day so I left her my car with instructions to Doggie Day Care and the beach.

Well both sets of directions were from my house since I didn't realize Moe was going to go straight to the beach after dropping the dogs off. Well it just happened to work out kind of perfectly but kind of not, that the directions Moe followed "to the beach" from Day Care took her onto base. Luckily they weren't checking ID's at the time and Moe was waved through and saluted. Well Moe kind of panicked and didn't know what to do- so she saluted back... with her left hand. She pulled over after she got through the gate and called me panicking. She said the guard was laughing at her, and believe me- so was I.

(In Moe's defense, how is she supposed to know what to do when driving through the gate? I totally get that. But the only time the MP's get saluted back (and with a right hand) is when the Marine driving the car is in uniform. No offense Moe, but even on your best beach day you can't pass as a Marine in uniform.)

So I had her just turn around and drive off base and gave her the correct directions to the beach. Which was all good until she got my X-terra stuck in the sand that she parked in. So a complete stranger and a cop were helping her dig out my tires with her flip flops. Now that I would have liked to see! But after Friday afternoon's debacles, the rest of the weekend was pretty smooth sailing.

My friends Dave and Bob had people over at their house Friday night, Saturday night we went out in style for my friend's going away party (limo and all), and Sunday night turned into a dance party that lasted until 6 am the next morning. Let's just say I will never hear the song Cupid Shuffle the same again, and no I was not working Monday. But Dave and Lindsay each ended up being like 3 hours late for their jobs- oooops! We enjoyed the beach, drinking, and dancing the night away. It was a lot of fun to have Moe here and all my friends loved her. Lindsay wanted her to move in with her! Now all that either Moe or I have to do is win the lottery and we could fly her down here anytime we wanted!

Hey Moe,
Not to worry....We just an Airman at Andrews AFB, a sentry, guarding the gate, salute with his left hand, another Airman who was passing through the gate in a car and off-course, in uniform...No-one acted as if it mattered.

I know custom dictates that left hands may be used if the right hand is not usable...Oh well, this guy's right arm and hand were fine.

So, don't you fret.

Good luck to you all and GO ARMY,
